We require all applicants to be Level 1certificate holders before applying for affiliation. The Makerspace Business Licensee Track as it is the fastest and preferred path to affiliation covering all the topics needed to provide a well rounded foundation saving you time and avoiding the pain and expense figuring it out on your own.

This Level 1 course offers expert level instruction on the Makerspace Blueprint methodology through 5 days of exciting and fast paced instruction in a small group environment with our experienced team of managers and instructors. Learn the fundamental business practices of running a makerspace that are universally applicable. It has been our experience that a the largest differences between makerspaces is their mission and their feel or culture. All of which will significantly more successful and achieve more impact if organized and run sustainably.

Total Immersion

You will work with our team as a peer to learn hands on the skills required and the philosophies we use everyday. Experience the impact of a well run space.

Operations

Learn guiding principles and how we apply them to manage a large team, provide exception value to our members, students and community, and still have a life!

Adult Education

Learn the techniques to used to run a highly effective adult education program offering over 150 classes per month with 25 instructors.

Youth Education

Experience the thrill of running a leading youth program and making massive impact on the community. You will go thru our entire instructor training regimen.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Level 1 Makerspace Licensee Track is designed to provide the foundation so you can execute the Makerspace Blueprints properly by utilizing the templates, curriculum, and documentation you are preparing to license. Running a makerspace is not easy and neither is the training. The track will start Monday and run for 5 days straight from 9 am to 6 or 7 pm. You will work directly with our management team to learn their jobs and participate in very active full scale makerspace. The lessons will translate to makerspaces of any size and configuration providing the depth of knowledge needed to make the right decisions and increase your impact.

PREQUISITES

None. However prior business or management experience will be very helpful.

PREPARATION

Review the Makerspace Blueprint book that will be mailed to you upon registration. Join our Podcast and start to learn about how we approach running a makerspace and serving our members and students. 

PRICE

As of January 1, 2022, the class costs USD $4,995 per person. Prices in all other countries are calculated using the days exchange rate and will include any required VAT.

TRAVEL INFO

We are located adjacent to Orange County John Wayne International Airport (SNA).

Rental cars are available at the airport.

There are lots of great hotels near us. The closest is a 5 to 10 minute walk to our facility , the Ayres Hotel Costa Mesa / Newport located at 325 Bristol St. Costa Mesa, CA 92626

We suggest you fly in a day early and check out the beautify Orange county beaches and attractions. Our classes start at 9am on the dates indicated so be sure to fly in ahead of time and plan to fly out the next day after the classes end.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the requirements to receive a Level 1 Certificate?

  • Attend the entire 7-day course (approximately 9 am to 7 pm each day). Attendance includes full participation in all lectures, activities, and break out sessions.
  • Agree to and sign the liability waivers and release forms and confidentiality agreement.
  • Pay all course / test fees in full

Which Credential is necessary for Makerspace Blueprint affiliation?

The minimum credential required to apply for affiliation is the Level 1. We highly recommend the Level 1 Makerspace Blueprint Licensee Track for anyone interested in becoming an affiliate as it provides a comprehensive review of all the core concepts and methodology of a successful full scale makerspace. Those seeking training and certification only should take the Level 1 class in the area of their interest so they can continue to the more specific level 2 courses.

Is there a deadline to register for the course?

Registration is available until the course is full or 24 hours prior to the start of the course. We encourage you to sign up early so have time to plan your travel and review your Makerspace Blueprints Book prior to the class.

Can I just take the training classes?

Yes. individuals will benefit greatly from the instruction and experience received in the classes. Individuals may benefit from the classes in many ways including experience and credentials that may help you find a job at a makerspace. Our Level 2 classes are only available to individuals who have completed a Level 1 class in their area of intertest.

How and when are certificates delivered?

Class certificates are individually mailed and can take four to six weeks to arrive for those living in the United states and eight to 12 weeks for those living outside the United States.

In which languages are the classes offered?

English is the default language for the Classes. If we get sufficient interest in a particular language or a group enrollment, we may schedule classes with a translator.

What is the minimum age for Level 1 certification classes?

Participants must be at least 18 years old when the classes commence.
