WHAT YOU GET

Licensing allows you to use all of the operational procedures (aka Blueprints), documentation, and standard forms for daily operations of a makerspace including customer service, sales, marketing, staffing, and facility maintenance as well as all the operational procedures (aka Blueprints), documentation, and standard forms to operate both the adult and youth education programs including, scheduling, tool and material inventory, staffing, instructor training, and class management. Free access to over 50 hours of video content showing how to teach every session in the youth program as well as the basics classes for the general membership.

Licensees will also enjoy on-going support in the form of email and phone support, weekly group video calls and training sessions, and priority access to events. Your affiliate location may also be featured in on our social media pages if you send us photos and updates on your successes.

REQUIREMENTS

Makerspace Blueprint Training Certificate

We require Licensees to have a Level 1 Licensing Class certificate holder on staff at all times during license period. If you are new to the program, the cost of the L1 License class is included in the price of the license for the makerspace owner or General Manager. Should your certificate holder leave the makerspace you will have 90-days to send a replacement team member for training to remain in compliance.

 
Organization and Insurance

Licensees must be a properly formed company and not a sole proprietorship. In the U.S. that means affiliates must be a corporation, LLC, or Federally recognized non-profit and provide articles of incorporation or state filing documents.

U.S. Licensees are required to submit proof of insurance. Please see the Licensee Requirements page for more detailed information.

 
Cost

$24,000 annually and includes all three license categories: Operations documents and procedures, Adult Education documents and procedures, and Youth Program documents and procedures. Please see the Affiliation Requirements page for complete pricing information. 3-year option is $60,000.

 
Naming

Licensing does not allow you to legally use either the Urban Workshop or Makerspace Blueprint names or trademarks in any way. This includes domain names, business names, program identification, and all other potential uses. Urban Workshop and Makerspace Blueprint are are registered trademarks and use of them without prior written permission is illegal.

 
Promotion

Once licensed, we will include your Makerspace in our Licensee List. To be included in in the Licensee List you must have a compliant affiliate website and display a “We use the Makerspace Blueprint” logo in a prominent location.

What is the process for becoming a Licensee?

Visit our How to License page. Please note that you must hold a Makerspace Blueprint Certificate in Operations before applying for affiliation. Certification is also required for the Adult Education and Youth Program to gain access to those licenses.

Who can License?

Any individual, for profit business, non-profit, government agency, school, or institution of higher education is eligible to license the Makerspace Blueprint materials and programs.

Can I just take the training classes?

Yes. individuals will benefit greatly from the instruction and experience received in the classes. Individuals may benefit from the classes in many ways including experience and credentials that may help you find a job at a makerspace. Our advanced classes are only available to affiliates as they specifically teach how to implement the licensed materials.
