L1 CERTIFICATION COURSES
OVERVIEW
Makerspace Blueprint Level 1 courses are open to individuals and makerspace operators, staff, board members, and owners. Really, anyone who needs or wants to improve their skills and learn new techniques so they can start a new space, level up an existing space, or get new skills so they can work at a space. All of our classes are developed from the real world experiences of starting and boot strapping Urban Workshop into one of the most successful makerspaces in North America. We have spent over $1,000,000 since 2014 to develop the processes (aka Blueprints), document templates, and the curriculum for over 200 classes so you don’t have to. These Level 1 classes will allow you to shortcut your journey saving you years of stress, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and getting your space to where it is sustainable and achieving the impact you want.
Makerspace Business Licensee Track
This 5-day Level 1 course prepares you to be a Makerspace Blueprint Licensee and provides a solid foundation of all aspects of running a successful makerspace. The main topics from each of the other three Level 1 classes will be taught in this intense but exciting program. This class is essential to your success and so it requires total immersion. You will come to California and learn hands-on as part of our team how to run a full scale makerspace and develop a world class education program at the Urban Workshop facility.
Makerspace Operations
This 5-day Level 1 course prepares you to operate a well structured makerspace run by an enthusiastic team that will allow you to operate as a proper business and grow while still having a life. Learn how to implement programs that bring customers up your value ladder and makes your space sustainable driving lasting impact. You will come to California and learn hands-on as part of our team how to run a full scale makerspace at the Urban Workshop facility.
Adult Education and Programming
This 5-day Level 1 course prepares you to run a complex suite of adult classes, class tracks, Maker Mentoring, Success Coaching, and how it all works together to propel your space forward. Learn how to execute an education program that will run like a machine allowing you to make the impact you desire without having to do it all yourself. Learn the hiring and training techniques, the curriculum, and techniques to manage inventory and tools that will set you free and become a guiding light in your community.

Youth Education and Programming
This 5-day Level 1 course prepares you to run a streamlined youth shop class program that provides hands-on experiential learning, career exploration, and real world problem solving skills to your students. Learn how to execute a program that will have kids begging for more as you make life long impact without having to do it all yourself. Learn the hiring and training techniques, the curriculum, and techniques to manage inventory and tools that will set you free and help the youth in your community.
